We are not in High Point by accident, but by the sovereign, providential hand of God. God has placed us here for His purposes. High Point, NC is our place to live out the purposes of God. High Point is where we want to be, it is OUR city.
In Our City
We desire to do life in our City. We want to be involved in the community around us, connecting with people as we go about life. We aim to be hospitable and seek those things that are good for the city. We seek to give to the city in any way we can and not just take from the city.
We do these things because according to the Gospel, God created humanity in His image, making humans image-bearers. This image-bearing status gives humans dignity, value and worth. As humans we do not have dignity, value and worth in ourselves, but because of the God who's image we reflect. An image-bearer is kind of like a mirror. Humanity is intended to reflect the greatness and beauty of God.
However, the Gospel goes on to tell us that we are broken mirrors because our first parents (Adam and Eve) rebelled against God. Because we are broken, humanity no longer reflects God well at all. We are all broken mirrors in desperate need of repair, a repair only God can make.
As we are being repaired through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we want to do life alongside other image-bearers who are not in the repair process yet, loving them in word and deed.
The is Life IN our city.
Life in Our City
The greatest injustice in our city is that the Creator God, who made and sustains all things, is not honored and praised as God, which He is due. We all are guilty of this injustice and therefore under God's wrath. We need someone to step in on our behalf to make things right. This is only possible through Jesus Christ, the God-man, who entered the creation He created, to redeem His image-bearers. Jesus the God-man lived a perfect life of image-bearing because we could not and died in the place of image-bearers as an image-bearer because we could not. Jesus died and satisfied the wrath of God. Jesus then arose from the grave proving who he was and showing the justice of God in dealing with human sin (rebellion). After rising from the dead, Jesus also became the justifier of those who repent (admit the foolishness and evil of rebelling against God) and place their trust in Him reconciling them to God. Through Jesus, a person is freed up to live a new supernatural empowered life, characterized by the life of Jesus, for the fame and renown of God. This reality is why we take the good news of Jesus Christ into our city. It is Jesus that will ultimately bring LIFE to our city.
